The Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, says the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, was passionate about the Nigerian State and he gave his all till the end.
Oluyede said this when members of the House of Representatives Committee on Army paid a condolence visit to Army Headquarters on Friday in Abuja.
He said that Lagbaja dedicated his life to the service of the army and Nigeria, adding that he was selfless, passionate about the Nigerian state and gave his all.
“I would like to describe him as a real germ because he lived for Nigeria and Nigerians.
“He is somebody that has been celebrated by Nigeria and he has been recognised by all.
“For us in the Nigerian army, we shall celebrate him till eternity, because he has left enduring legacies behind,” he said.
The Acting COAS expressed sadness over the passing of Lagbaja and promised to sustain his legacies by ensuring that operations were rejigged to tackle the menace of insecurity across the country.
“I want to assure this team that my team and I, having been part of the Nigerian army structure, will do everything best possible to continue these strides and ensure that we make Nigeria safe,” he added.
The Chairman of the Committee, Aminu Balele, said they were at army Headquarters to console the Nigerian Army on the loss of the Lagbaja on behalf of the house.

Belele gave assurance that the committee would continue to support the army to sustain the legacy of Lagbaja to make Nigeria better.
He expressed confidence in the capacity of the Acting COAS to tackle the security challenges in the country.
