As council calls for unity among South West traditional rulers

 

The Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW) has called for unity and oneness among the traditional rulers in the Southwest region.

This is just as the Council is planning for the mauden Meeting of Traditional rulers from the region

 

Mr Hassan Oladotun, the president of the council, made the call on Sunday while addressing a news conference at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeleye Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife.

 

Oladotun said that the unity of the traditional rulers in the region was necessary to address the challenges facing the Yoruba heritage.

 

According to him, without unity and cordial relationship among the Yoruba traditional rulers, a solid foundation for socio-economic development might be difficult to achieve in the region.

 

“As part of efforts in fostering unity among the traditional institutions and leaders in the region, the council will hold its first Yoruba Obas Summit on Nov. 7 in Lagos.

 

“The summit is supported by the Lagos Council of Arts and Culture, as well as Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, and will hold at Elegushi palace, Lekki, Lagos,

 

“It will be attended by traditional institutions, policymakers, governors and other stakeholders dedicated to the progress and unity of Yoruba land,” he said.

 

The YWC president, who noted that the unity of Yoruba was not negotiable, said that the summit would look into how southwest region could achieve economic development.

He said that the summit would also dwell on how the region could achieve food security and human development, advancement of Yoruba information center, 15 per cent derivation for traditional institutions, among others.

 

Oladotun also said that the council would continue to work for a stronger, more united and prosperous Yorubaland.
