Port Harcourt was thrown into a state of shock and disbelief after a dog meat seller, identified as Erica, absconded with his neighbor’s six-month-old baby, Lucky Sunday, at Anekelane, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
The accused, reportedly in his mid-30s from Akwa Ibom State, has only resided in the compound for two months.
According to the mother of the missing child, Hope Sunday, she had trusted Erica with her baby while she tended to household chores.
In an interview, she recounted the chilling moments leading to the abduction: “He offered to hold my baby, Lucky, while I spread clothes. He had always been fond of my baby, so I thought nothing of it.”
Moments later, Hope noticed Erica and her child were missing. Despite a frantic search, there was no trace of either.
Neighbors have been left horrified by the incident.
Many described Erica as a quiet man who sold dog meat in front of their compound. Residents and passers-by gathered in disbelief, condemning the abductor for betraying the trust of his neighbor in such a shocking manner.
The case has been reported to the Azikiwe Police Division at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, and a search is underway to locate Erica and rescue the baby. Hope Sunday, distraught over the disappearance of her baby, is pleading with the public for any information that could lead to the recovery of her son.
Residents have expressed outrage and fear, describing the abduction as a betrayal by someone they had welcomed into their community. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation
