The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, regarding allegations of contract awards and job racketeering at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed that Ngige appeared at the Commission’s headquarters to provide information related to the ongoing investigation. While specific details of the allegations were not disclosed, Bakare noted that the former minister could be summoned again as the probe continues.
Ngige, who previously served as governor of Anambra State, was not detained during his visit to the Commission on Wednesday, according to the ICPC.

The investigation comes after reports surfaced about alleged misconduct at the NSITF, including a N47 million gratuity payment to the agency’s former Managing Director, Maureen Allagoa, while she was still in active service.
The probe also coincides with efforts by Ngige’s successor, Senator Simon Lalong, who has set up a special investigative committee to examine suspected irregularities in contract awards at the NSITF, amounting to as much as N1.8 billion.
Both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are actively involved in the investigations, which prompted Ngige’s recent questioning.
Further developments are expected as authorities continue to scrutinize the operations of the NSITF.
