As part of its continued efforts to curb re-occuring cases of Sexual and Gender Base Violence, (SGBV), Women Law and Development Initiative (WOLDI Africa) recently in Abuja hosted a One-day Sensitization Programme for School Girls and Teachers on how to manage SGBV in the school environment.

One of the facilitators at the training held at Government Girl’s Science Secondary School in Abuja, Elizabeth Okhanigbe explained that SGBV is present in every society but it takes different form.

“In managing SGBV, all actions or decisions should be guided by respect for the survivor’s choices, wishes, rights, and dignity. Survivors should receive equal and fair treatment, regardless of their age, sex, race, marital status, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic,” Okhanigbe opined.

The training also focuses on equipping the participants with introduction to basic knowledge on case management and creating awareness among students, teachers and school authority about the prevalence, prevention, impact, management of SGBV, and to promote a culture of respect, equality, and safety within and outside the school environment.
