The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) said, on Wednesday, that it had disbursed a total of N1,172,388,340.00 to 20,000 students.

Akinwande Sawyer, managing director of NELFUND, at a press conference attended by Minister of (state) Education Dr. Yussuf Sununu, said that the agency paid the complete tuitions of 11,083 students.
He also explained that the agency selected the beneficiaries “based on their academic calendar.”

“Disbursement to other institutions will be made at the beginning of their sessions to ensure a transparent and equitable distribution of resources,” he added.

Apart from the tuition payments, Sawyer said the beneficiaries would receive stipends for their upkeeps.

“The payment of upkeep stipends will be conducted in the coming week with the utmost transparency and security.” NELFUND also announced that it would soon launch skills programs.

“These programs are designed to empower Nigerians with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel,” he stated.

The agency said it and its collaborators on the loan program are “committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”

“By doing so, we aim to build and maintain the trust of all stakeholders involved in this initiative,” Sawyer said.
