Unframed, a thought-provoking fine art photography solo exhibition by acclaimed Nigerian artist Chidozie Maduka, which ran from July 12th to 19th, 2024. Though Maduka was unable to attend in person, his virtual presence, paired with Rele Gallery’s exceptional curation and representation, resulted in an exhibition that was both critically acclaimed and widely attended.

In Unframed, Maduka presents a bold photographic series that interrogates ideas of visibility, vulnerability, and the freedom to exist beyond imposed boundaries. His lens becomes a space of resistance and reflection—capturing layered narratives of selfhood, dislocation, and spiritual depth with a striking visual clarity.

While based remotely, Maduka remained actively engaged through a series of virtual initiatives. From remote artist talks and digital walkthroughs to private collector briefings and press interactions, his voice was central to the experience of the exhibition. Rele Gallery’s London team ensured each guest encountered not only the artist’s work but also the context, philosophy, and intention behind it.

“Unframed demonstrates that art knows no limits—not of space, not of distance,” said Adenrele Sonariwo, Founder and Director of Rele Gallery. “Chidozie’s ability to move audiences from afar speaks to the strength of his work and the power of storytelling through photography.”

The exhibition garnered strong media interest and impressive attendance throughout its run, with numerous works placed in private collections. Visitors were particularly drawn to the emotional depth and technical refinement of Maduka’s imagery, which continues to position him as a significant voice in contemporary African photography.

Unframed reaffirms Rele Gallery’s commitment to supporting emerging talent and to presenting compelling contemporary narratives from the African continent to global audiences.
