The Lagos State Government has launched the WASH Mobile App to improve the management of drinking water sources and regulate service providers, following a cholera outbreak that has claimed 58 lives and affected 16,661 people.
The app aims to ensure the safety, quality, and assurance of drinking water by addressing gaps in the sector.
Mrs. Funke Adepoju, Executive Secretary of the Lagos Water Regulatory Commission, emphasized the importance of water sanitation and hygiene regulation in protecting public health. She urged Water Service Providers and Consumers to prioritize adherence to regulatory guidelines to prevent waterborne diseases.
The app simplifies the registration and certification process for water service providers, allows real-time monitoring and compliance tracking, and enhances communication between providers and regulators. It aims to ensure that all packaged water meets the highest safety and quality standards, promoting a collaborative approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
The launch was supported by the Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Environment, and donor partners, including USAID under the LUWASH project.
The app is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the WASH sector, ensuring better service delivery and making Lagos a model of excellence in water sanitation and hygiene.
