Speakers of the 36 Houses of Assembly in Nigeria on Thursday threw their weight behind clamour for state Police and endorsed ongoing processes by the National Assembly to make provision for state policing in the nation’s constitution.

The two chambers of the National Assembly it will be recalled are working to further alter some provisions in the 1999 constitution.

The speakers made their resolution known in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the conference of speakers of state legislatures held in Abuja on Thursday.

Adebo Ogundoyin, speaker of the Oyo house of assembly and chairman of the conference, signed the communiqué. (The Nation)
