At last peace appears to be on the horizon for residents and indigenes of Agosasa town in the Ipokia local government area of the state .

The community has been in civil strike in the past two years over the installation of a traditional ruler for the town.

Just a little over three weeks ago precisely on March 27,the Ogun Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police,State Criminal Investigation Department to see him in connection with the crisis.(see attached).

The commissioner in the letter signed by SP Ojueromi Bukola Ibilola,Chiefs Supritendent of Police(Admin) sighted by Our correspondent refered to a petition written by one concerned citizen named ,Kunle Nasir Olaniyan dated March 11,2024 in which the later drew the attention of the Inspector General of Police,Kayode Egbetokun to the earlier petition written by another respected citizen Alhaji A.R Tijani, dated 19/9/2022 on the request for the need for a peace accord in the ancient town.

If the latest move by the IG holds, it will be second peace accord to be signed in the warring community within two years as a result of differences among two ruling houses in who should be the towns traditional ruler.

He stated that the peace accord signed by the two factions with the Department of State Services,DSS is not being honoured by one of the factions adding that the faction is,” being aided and supervised by Amotekun-a state sponsored security outfit, and and cult groups with the connivance of unpatriotic Police operatives to perpetuate Violence leadibg to wanton destruction of property and palpable fear and tension in the community”.

Worst still, the petitioner, Olaniyan told the IG that the faction in question has been using the name of Governors of Ogun state,Prince Dapo Abiodun to perpetuate various evil acts and presenting the general Public from going about their daily businesses.

He also cited the decision of Governors Abiodun to close down markets for weeks without any justification adding that,”as a responsible Governors,he would not encourage any form of criminality.we want to believe that the Governors is not award of all these criminal activities going in via “his directives”.
As a result,Olaniyan is asking the IG Egbetokun to do the following:
i. Arrest all the perpetrators of these crimes including their kingpin so as to allow peace to reign.

He listed the main actors who he alleged have been using both the Army and the Police to cause unrest in the ancient town to include: Otunba Akeem Adigun,Isiaka Aderounmu,Ganiu Mufa,Olabimtan Lamina,Ishola Rafiu,Ajibola Fatiu,Kehinde and Taiwo Ganiu,Lateef Ganiu,Musa Durowoju,Abaru Shei,Elegbede Hamod,Ogundele Hammed,Adeniyi Hameed,Adeola Ibrahim,Adegun Waris,Okeowo Teslim,Jamiu and Ibrahim Akinpelu, Sunday Obara,Ajao Lekan,Muideen Bariga,Wasiu Adeogun,Abaro Akeem,Olajuwon Saheed,Ajah boy and Seripa.
3.
He also asked the IG to advised Governor Abiodun to publicly deny support for trouble makers and the perpetrators of Violence so as to give fleeing members of the community to return to their daily pursuit.

He contended that Once the two listed objectives are achieved, the two groups should be invited to sign a fresh undertaking for return of peace.

Furthermore,he urged to Inspector General to ask both parties to wait for the court Judgement on the source of discord which is the stool being contested adding that above measures if taken are will lead to the reztoration of peace and economic life of the town.

It will be recalled that before the latest fracas last month, one citizen,Alhaji AR Tijani had on September 19,2022,petitioned the then Inspector General of Police,Usman Alkali Baba requesting for a Peace Accord in Agosasa town.(see attached).

In the letter, he said that though the curfew imposed on the town was relatively effective,it is advisable to initiate an emergency Peace Accord to avoid, what he described as,” a more dangerous and protracted crisis” by summoning the commandeer of the two factions to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Those in Faction B are:Chief Alhaji Fatai Ajibola,(ring leader)Alhaji Saeed Olabisi and Chief Sulaiman Obey.

It will be recalled that the town has since year 2022 after the installation of Oba Azeez Akinpelu been torn into two following the refusal of those supporting Chief Fadeyi Emmanuel Sunday Abogunrin who felt it is their turn to produce the new Oba to accept the new Oba.
This has led to civil strife which resulted in wanton destruction of lives and property and closure of markets in the town, harassment of citizens and to top it all, closure of two Customary Courts and only magistrate Court in the ancient town.

Only last month hundreds had to flee the town following renewal of hostilities between the two warring factions.
