…Algeria’s Qualification or Knockout Stages shaky.

Qatar’s Al-Wakurah FC player, Jacinto ‘Gelson’ Dala on Saturday got the first Brace (two goals in a match) for the Antelopes of Angola in a group D match in which the Antelopes consumed the Almoravids of Mauritania 3-2.

Gelson scored 30th minute and 50th minute to give Angola a hopeful night but hard working Gassama had found home boy, Bouna Amar who scored the first goal in open match for Mauritania in the 43rd minute.

Athletico Petroleos de Luanda player, Gilberto found the net for Angola winning goal but Diaw found Aboubakary Koita who plays in Belgium and scored second goal for Mauritania in the 58th minute.

Angola heads group D now with 4 points scoring 4 goals and conceding 3; Burkina Faso is 2nd also with 4 points scoring 3 goals and conceding 2 goals; Algeria is 3rd with 2 points scoring 3 goals and conceding 3 goals while Mauritania may go out at group stage for the third time as they are yet to get a point scoring 2 goals and conceding 4 goals.

Angola and Mauritania met four times. They played goalless at an AFCON match on 20th January 2023; played another goalless at another AFCON match on 19th June 2019; Mauritania defeated Angola by a lone goal on home ground in an AFCON match on 16th October 2018 and Angola banged Mauritania 4-1in an AFCON encounter on 12th October 2018.

The Black Stable Antelopes of Angola ranked 117 never had no podium finish but two quarterfinal appearances at Ghana 2008 when they lost to Egypt 1-2 in Kumasi on 4th February and 2010 when she lost to Ghana at Luanda by a lone goal on 24th January.

Angola’s last five matches are as follows: She lost 0-4 to Iran on 12th September 2023; played goalless with DRC on 17th October 2023 in a friendly match; played another goalless draw with Cape Verde on 17th November 2023 in a world cup match; played another goalless draw in another world cup match against lowly rated Mauritius on 22nd November 2023; on 6th of January 2024 it was again goalless against DRC in a friendly game and on 10th January 2024 Angola got a 3-0 victory over Bahrain in a friendly match. This shows that Angola is a very low scoring country in need of a lethal striker and supplying team. Angola held Algeria to 1-1draw in their group opener on 15th January 2024.

Mauritania ranked 105 in the world, only appeared at the AFCON games twice in 1985 and 2021 and on both occasions were kicked out at the group stages.

Mauritania lost to Burkina Faso in an AFCON match 1-2 on 17th October 2023; lost 0-2 to DR Congo on 15th November 2023in a world cup qualifier; played goalless with South Sudan on 21st November 2023 in a world cup qualifier; played goalless with Tunisia in a friendly on 6th January 2024 and in the first round group match in on 16th January 2024.

Last Group D matches will be played on Tuesday at 9pm. Mauritania will play Algeria and Angola will be in a decisive match with Burkina Faso.

Tomorrow Sunday, Morocco will open play against DR Congo in a group E outstanding match at 3pm; Zambia will tackle Taifa Stars of Tanzania at 6pm in group F match and the second group F match will be South Africa versus Namibia at 9pm. That will end groups second round matches.
