At a time when the modern world is defined by constant motion, endless notifications, and shrinking moments of reflection, Nigerian fine art photographer Orisakwe Emmanuel Chizitere is asking audiences to do something radical: slow down.

From December 5 to December 11, 2023, Chizitere will present Echoes in Stillness, a solo exhibition at Afriart Gallery, Kampala, featuring a compelling collection of photographic works that examine silence not as absence, but as presence.

The exhibition explores what happens in the moments we often overlook—the pauses between conversations, the spaces between memories, and the quiet experiences that shape our emotional lives. Through a series of visually arresting photographs, Chizitere transforms stillness into a subject worthy of attention, contemplation, and celebration.

More than an exhibition of images, Echoes in Stillness is an exploration of the human condition. The works challenge viewers to reconsider their relationship with time, memory, and self-awareness, creating a space where observation becomes introspection.

“Silence is one of the most powerful forms of communication,” says Chizitere. “Many of life’s most important transformations happen in quiet moments. This exhibition seeks to honour those moments and the stories they carry.”

Known for his thoughtful approach to visual storytelling, Chizitere has developed a body of work distinguished by emotional depth, technical precision, and philosophical inquiry. His photography often investigates themes of identity, memory, vulnerability, and belonging, inviting audiences into conversations that extend far beyond the frame.

Art critics and cultural observers have increasingly noted the role of contemporary African photographers in redefining global visual narratives. Through exhibitions such as Echoes in Stillness, artists like Chizitere continue to expand the possibilities of photographic practice while offering new perspectives on African experiences and universal human emotions.

Hosted by Afriart Gallery, one of East Africa’s leading contemporary art institutions, the exhibition is expected to attract collectors, curators, photographers, students, and art enthusiasts from across the region. Visitors will encounter a body of work that rewards patience and reflection, encouraging them to engage not only with the photographs but also with themselves.

In many ways, Echoes in Stillness arrives at a critical cultural moment. As societies grapple with increasing speed and distraction, the exhibition serves as a reminder that meaning is often found not in what is loudest, but in what remains quietly present.

For Chizitere, the goal is simple yet profound: to create images that linger long after they have been seen.
