The Federal government has indicated willingness to improve healthcare services in both federal and state healthcare facilities in the country.
This was stated by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa when he paid an oversight visit to Federal Medical Center, Ebute Meta Lagos during the week.
While conducting a tour round the centre with the Management and Staff of FMC, Dr. Alausa expressed satisfaction at the services been provided by the facility, however said more still need to be done.
His words “I’m so impressed with what I’ve seen here so far, this hospital compares to best hospitals in the world. FMC, Ebute Meta is no doubt providing amazing services to people at subsidized rate. I hereby commend the management and staff of this facility for their efforts, this takes hard work, commitment and a lot of energy to put a hospital that functions well together” said Dr. Alausa.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director, FMC, Dr. Adedamola Dada said that Dr. Alausa ‘s oversight visit is timely as he’s been able to see their strength as well as identify their weaknesses and challenges in order to find lasting solution.
His words
“Dr. Alausa has seen the challenges we are facing and this will enable him to determine where his office can render necessary assistance so that we can deliver on our mandate thereby providing better care to the people.
Speaking about the challenges, Dr Dada reveals that the facility lacks adequate human power.
“We have quite a number of completed infrastructure but no man power (human resources).
There has been a lot of challenges in retaining the health work force in the Country” Dr Dada laments.
According to Dr Dada, lack of work force has affected the facility’s capacity in terms of delivery.
“It has affected our capacity in terms of the number of patients that we can handle. I’m excited at the solutions the Minister is proposing and the steps he’s planning to take so that we can deliver better on the new agenda of Mr President” he said.
