Ogun partnership with GIZ-SKYE has brought development to TVET programme – Abiodun’s Aide

The Ogun State Government has said that the continuous and consistent support of German establishment Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), has brought remarkable development, especially in the area of building the capacity of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) administrators, through the overseas training to Germany for skill development.

While receiving the GIZ-SKYE team on a courtesy visit in Abeokuta, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, explained that 6 Principals, 2 School Administrators, and 11 Teachers in the State Government Technical and Vocational Colleges were sponsored to upgrade their skills in technical and vocational training.

Prof. Arigbabu, in a statement by Mr. Samuel Ogungbesan, Press Officer, MOES&T, further stated that GIZ, with its technical support, were also involved in the drafting of the new strategy for the development of Ogun State TVET to meet up with the international standard, saying their involvement has enhanced the boards’ horizons on the best way to go about its development.

The Governor’s aide hinted that GIZ was also supportive of extracurricular activities such as Boy Scouts and teaching students in secondary school’s entrepreneur skills in the state.

He said, ‘ With the support of GIZ, the board was able to identify more of its challenges and we’re able to get ideas and suggestions on how best those problems could be solved using international best practices ‘.

While doing the overview of the visit, The Head of Project, GIZ-SKYE, Mr Tobias Wolfgarten noted that the purpose of the meeting was to identify the State priorities in the field of TVET and employment promotion, saying GIZ -SKYE has been collaborating with the State Ministry of Education, science and technology in the area of skills development, Vocational training, employment promotion, job facilitation for the past three years, assuring the state of its continuous support.

Speaking, the Acting Executive Secretary, Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), Mr. Olubori Akinleye, said Ogun was the first State in Nigeria where 25 foreign Resource Persons from different countries of the world would be coming for a conference to deliberate on how to move TVET programmes forward for better outputs.
