Nobel Laureate,Professor Woke Soyinka is 89 years old today.
He was born in Abeokuta on July 13 ,1934.
He attended Abeokuta Grammar School and later Government College Ibadan and the University of Ibadan where he studied English.
He later got a degree from the University of Leeds and returned to Nigeria in the early 60s.
He has been involved in the various struggles for the political development of the country.

He was imprisoned by the government of General Yakubu Gowon during the civil war period between 1967-70.
He became the first African to win the Nobel Laureate in literature in 1986.
Professor Soyinka was in the forefront of the Democratic struggles on account of which he proceeded to exile in 1994 as part of the process for the deannulment of the June 12 1993 presidential election won by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola who later died in detention.
Upon his return from exile he wrote his Memoirs-You must set forth at Dawn among his many books,poems and drama.
