Not many today knew that Sunny Neji was once the lead singer of a Lagos based band, Colours.  Same as many do not know or have forgotten that he was once known in the showbiz industry as Captain Sunny .

This Yaba College of Technology graduate in Fashion Design whose first album on EMI, was titled Mr. Fantastic. Captain was an interesting album then but was not a commercial success; that was not enough to dissuade Sunny to opt out of music.

Rather, that made him more resolute to pursue singing until 2007 when he released ‘Oruka ti de owo no …’ that became and still a must played at every wedding reception. That was when Sunny whose parents hailed from Ogoja in Cross Rivers State becamw stronger to the extent that he became a regular face in the then Calabar Festival initiated by the then Governor Donald Duke.

One of the finest Nigerian male voices maybe after Mike Okri and the late Chris Hanen, Neji has since then released good, meaningful songs like ‘ tolotolo, face me, I face you (Obasanjo’s most favourite song), Happy Birthday, Mr Fantastic ‘ to name a few.

Neji whose last recording label was Ojez Music/Record, is now one of the leaders of a faction of PMAN. He was once very active in the formation years of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) where it is on record that he produced it’s initial jingle and did that of a commercial bank and many politicians.
