Wagner : The Powerful Mercenary Group
The Wagner Group, a Russian military company often seen as a a de- facto private mercenary army of Russian President Vladimir Putin, have seized two cities and on their way towards Moscow, the Russian capital.
As at the time of this report, the southern military headquarter of Russia; Rostov-on-Don had been effectively seized by the rebels. Also, a city called Veronesh, on the way between Rostov and Moscow has been seized as well.
Meanwhile, in a broadcast by President Putin, he affirmed that Russia faces armed mutiny. He admitted that Yevgenev Prigozhin has betrayed Russia and that “this is a blow to Russia, to our people”.
The Wagner group is led by Prigozhin, a Russian Oligarch, the mercenary chief and a former close confidant of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The notorious group have been involved in a number of conflicts around the world including in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, Sudan and has mining control in many minefields in the Central Africa, the Congos and many other African countries.
