Okolie: Giant killer, take a bow at green chamber

To his political opponents, most especially Hon. Ndudi Elumelu that he defeated at the February 25 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election, the above was how they addressed him during the electioneering campaign.

When that did not make any impact on the people, mostly youths that were the force behind his party, Labour Party, they switched to his educational background. Again, they failed as before seeking greener pasture in Miami, Okolie attended St. Patricks College (SPC) Asaba and Christ the King College, (CKC) Onitsha, two influential schools in the area.

There was no dart that was not thrown at him; including an allegation that the same Elumelu who was once a very powerful legislator that probed the allegation of a $16billion meant for provision of electricity infrastructure during Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s presidency bought him his expression of interest form for the election.

But is Okolie who was …. really a political dark horse. Was he a nhypote in the politics of Delta State as peddled by his opponents? No, is the answer from what this writer gathered about him.

Like most politicians, Okolie has been around for a longer time. He only took the advantage of the popularity of Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party that was propelled by the youths to deal a fatal blow on the political career of Elumelu whom many a youth in the constituency saw as never do well .
