The Director/CEO of Optimistic Outlook, Somi Uranta, has described as new way to go the recent announcement by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), calling on the residents to suggest the most critical programme they want the commission to focus on in the area.
This he said is a great departure from the system where the commission just embark on project of its choice whether is critical to the people or not.
Uranta who is also from Niger Delta and whose NGO organised a skill acquisition/empowerment for the the people of the area last August, therefore, called NDDC to collaborate with NGOs like Optimistic Outlook that has the structure on ground in organising skill acquisition and training for the youths of the region.
“We have transversed the terrain. Let the follo people like use that knows the road in eguipping these youngsters with skills. Let us give them hooks instead of buying them fish,” Uranta who is the owner of Somi Steam Car Wash, Oregun, Lagos said.
He is not alone in this, some many respondents to the Twitter handle have appluded NDDC for the initiative, saying that if such is upheld, the high rate of unemployment among the youths in the area will be reduced as they will not only be employable but can on their become employees of labour.
