SATURDAY BREAKFAST with TONY OKOROJI
You mean from now, I will be spared from seeing Festus Keyamo everyday on my TV, a young man I used to give so much respect, arguing things that have neither rhyme nor reason? No more Femi Fani Kayode, with bold face, telling you the exact opposite of what he said a few months ago and without any apologies? OBJ got it absolutely right – give the man food and he will sing for you better and louder than Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy combined!
You mean, till further notice, there will be no more Dino Melaye on my TV ready to scatter the screen? Daniel Bwala will no longer turn my television set into a sham court room where he prosecutes his case and the defence has no right of reply? Will my dear brother, Kenneth Okonkwo be able to get some sleep now? Am I really sure that my LG TV is still ok with all the shouting, screaming and puerile arguments it has been subjected to by the political job men?
For Nigerians, history beckons
There are two people who may not like that this hyperactivity is screeching to an end. One is John Momoh who own Channels TV. The other is Nduka Obaigbena who runs Arise TV. Their airtimes have been awash with back-to-back political promos. Whether it is by new Naira notes or bank transfer, these two guys must be having a good laugh to their banks. Two people who must soon take their very deserved vacation are Seun Akinboloye at Channels TV and Charles Aniagolu of Arise TV. They are class acts and have done themselves and Nigerian journalism a lot of good.
Today is February 25. In a matter of hours, the votes will be cast and maybe in a matter of days, the winners of the elections will be known. There will be no more G5 meetings and consultations in Nigeria, in London and elsewhere. Wow! I may not have to see so much of Nyesom Wike on my TV again! He promised so much and delivered so little. Terrible anti-climax! The accusations and counter accusations will immediately tire like overnight dodo. The big stories of drug lords and SPVs will be stories for the history books and the show court cases that followed them will die their natural deaths.
I hope somebody will remember to clean up the streets that have been defaced with all manner of posters. I do hope that the social media rats who have since been trained to join issues and post a lot of nonsense on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, etc., will devote their energies and talents to the very important task of nation building.
Who told you that there is no money in Nigeria? Who told you there are no new Naira notes? My guys, the fact is that a few criminal people who are not producing anything have cornered, seized and stocked all the money for themselves. They are deploying it to buy Nigeria and deepen our misery. The wind is blowing and we are seeing the dirty bum of the Nigerian political industry, the biggest industry in the nation. This is how they have always operated, bribing election and security officials, buying votes, snatching ballot boxes, falsifying figures, etc., etc. All the people supposedly caught by the EFCC with millions in new Naira notes and hundreds of thousands of US dollars represent just a tip of the iceberg. For a long time, it has been the case that the easiest way to be super-rich in Nigeria is to grab political power and turn the commonwealth into personal estates.
The current elections in Nigeria are critical. If we are not careful, the elections might spell the end of the Nigerian experiment and at very huge costs. In normal circumstances, we are supposed to simply let our friends, family members and associates vote their “conscience”. These are not normal times. The current elections are not normal elections. Any person who purports to love Nigeria must take a stand this time.
The PDP has been given the chance to lead Nigeria and the party failed Nigerians. It is as a result of that failure that Nigerians went on to seek the unfortunate alternative that APC has shown itself to be, failing Nigerians colossally. I have written here before that it has become very clear that the structures of the PDP and APC will never lead to the emancipation of the Nigerian people. Those structures were built for the private accumulation of wealth, power and the mercantilism of a few. They are terribly infested with the corruption virus. They will only lead to more hunger, more kidnapping, more insecurity, more joblessness, more stealing on a bigger scale and more hopelessness for the Nigerian people and possibly the break-up of the Nigerian nation.
The entire concept of some persons accumulating enormous wealth from the Nigerian people without doing any visible work and turning around to use the wealth so accumulated to buy the leadership of the country in order to acquire more wealth, is obscene.
It is clear that the young people of Nigeria, the same age group that drove the #endsars movement, have understood the obscenity that is the present political contraption in Nigeria. They have concluded that for Nigeria to achieve true greatness, an end must be brought to our current virus infected bullion van democracy. It is apparent that a new structure is required that truly belongs to the young people of Nigeria for the repositioning of the Nigerian nation.
This a historic moment for the Nigerian nation. It cannot be about money, tribe or religion. It must be about Nigeria. Sometime in the future, every Nigerian must answer to where he or she stood at this moment. Please, go out and vote.
See you next week.
