…Bout reminiscent of Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston bout of 1965

Nigeria’s Ridwan Akanji ‘Scorpion’ Oyekola in the early hours  of Sunday gave a lethal sting to Monat Sopatip of Thailand knocking him out in 1 minute 40 seconds of the first round of a Super Featherweight (59kg) boxing bout that took place at the City Gym, Tomigusuka Okinawa in Japan.

Presidential Election: Rivers PDP set to dump Atiku

Fans were stunned as both orthodox boxers who weighed 129.5kg for the Scorpion and 129.25kg for Sopatip fought, only for the Nigerian who hails from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital in South West Nigeria to subdue his opponent within the twinkling of an eye.

The bout was reminiscent of the famous second encounter between the hard Puncher, Sonny Liston and the legendary Muhammed Ali at the Lewiston Maine on 25th May 1965 which Ali won in round one as fans were still on queue waiting to have access to the venue.

Both boxers who are 25 years of age had boasted of demolishing each other within the distance at the weigh on Friday but the Scorpion proved he was not a pseudo scorpion  (false Scorpion) in the main bout when he added Sopatip to his list of victorious bouts making 11-1-6ko’s on statistics.

A close monitoring on the Nigerian Professional Boxer’s WhatsApp page shows that Nigerian boxing coaches, Administrators as well as the Referees and Judges (R & J) are already celebrating the Ibadan boy who had been dominating the GOtv Boxing Championships for some time.
