A notorious wanted criminal in Imo recently arrested by the state police command State Nwangwu Chinwendu (AKA Onyeami) has disclosed that some first class traditional rulers aided and abetted the operations of his gang.
Chinwendu, an indigene of Aboh Mbaise who was arrested by the police at the funeral ceremony of his father also stated while been paraded before newsmen at the state police command headquarters, Owerri that these monarchs and top politicians from Mbaise were among their sponsors.
Onyeami who confessed to have led the gang that carried out many vicious attacks, including killing of security officials, killing of innocent civilians, burning of police stations, burning of INEC offices, among others said they act on instructions of their leaders and sponsors.
He also confessed to have killed the former President Good luck Jonathan political adviser, Ahmed Gulak while on his way to the Imo Airport.
Earlier while addressing newsmen on the recent breakthroughs of the Command, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abattam said Onyeami who has been on the watchlist of the state command for a very long time was arrested during the burial of his mother.
He said tactical teams of the Command acted on credible information and swooped on Onyeami during the burial of his father, but not without a gun duel from his Onyeami’s gang members who positioned strategically and opened fire as soon as they sighted incoming police oncoming security operatives, but were overpowered by the gallant security operatives.
He listed items recovered from the residence of the suspects to include Five (5) Pump Action guns; Two (2) cut to size double barrel guns; Four (4) locally made pistols, Fifty (50) rounds of live cartridges; Nine (9) locally made hand-grenades; ESN regalia and various charms and rings.
