Professor of Law and Special Adviser to two former military heads of state, General sanni Abacha and Abdusalam Abubakar, Auwalu Yadudu,has advocated for a national conversation towards having a pathway to the Restructuring of the country which has dominated discourse in the past two decades.
He spoke as Guest Speaker on Friday at the 14th Annual Convocation Lecture of the Crescent University ,Abeokuta.
According to him, several attempts that has been made since the 2005 and 2014 National conference failed because they were neither backed by elected representatives of the people nor backed by law.
He also spoke of unclear motives of stakeholders who attempted to smuggle in provisions not in the agreed amendments by the conferees.
Aside from the creation of a national conversation,he spoke of need to create enabling law to guide and regulate the conversation.
According to him,the enabling law should highlight and spell out the objectives of such a national conference before the conference is convoked.
Professor Yadudu advocated the amendment of the constitution in order to address the mutual suspicions and fear which led to the failure of previous conferences and amendments.
“A constitutional order needed to be reexamined and created to achieve the objective”he declared.
In conclusion,he called for a piece meal amendment in order to achieve outfalls of wholesale amendment which will lead the nation nowhere.
In his concluding remark,Barrister Adesegun Ajibola SAN,representative of the founder,His Excellency Judge Bola Ajibola,joined the clamour for Restructuring the country adding that the present structure of the country is seriously defectiv
