NiMet predicts 3-day cloudiness and thunderstorms from Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudiness and thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja predicted a cloudy atmosphere on Wednesday over the northern region.

It further predicted the chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, and the Zamfara States.

According to the agency, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, and Kaduna states later in the day.

“Cloudy atmosphere should prevail over the North Central region with prospects of light rains over parts of Kogi, Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Niger, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau state.

“Cloudy atmosphere should dominate the inland and coastal cities of the South, with light rains over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom during the morning hours, ” it said.

NiMet envisaged light rains across the South, especially over parts of Abia, Edo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta Edo, and Lagos states.

According to the agency, a cloudy atmosphere is envisaged on Thursday over the North East with prospects of morning thunderstorms over the North West, especially parts of Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara states.

NiMet forecast thunderstorms over parts of Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara state in the afternoon and evening period.

It also predicted light rains over parts of Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, and Niger in the morning.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Plateau, Kogi, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue state.

“Rains are anticipated over parts of Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom state.

“Later in the afternoon and evening hours, rains are expected over parts of Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Rivers, Cross River, Ekiti, and Lagos states,” it said.

The agency predicted thunderstorms over the northern region during the morning hours on Friday.

It forecast thunderstorms over parts of Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Adamawa, and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening hours.

“Rains are anticipated over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, and Kogi during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Benue state,” it said.

NiMet anticipated the inland and coastal cities of the South to be in a cloudy atmosphere with chances of light rains over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

It envisaged rains over parts of Imo, Abia, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers later in the day.

According to NiMet, the Northern and North Central parts of the country are still at high risk of floods.

“Emergency agencies are expected to be at alert. Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.
