There was confusion in Akwa Ibom State High Court as Uduak Akpan, the first accused in the murder of Iniubong Umoren, an Akwa Ibom job seeker, was sentenced to death by hanging.

Akpans attempt to escape shortly after the sentence was announced by the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang was however foiled..
However, it took the intervention of the police to foil the attempted escape.
The convict was sentenced to death by hanging and life imprisonment in the two charge of murder and rape preferred against him.
However, the court discharged and acquitted his father, Frank Akpan and sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused) who were standing trial for accessory after the fact to murder.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has approved the appointment of management and constitution of a 20-member board for the state’s Sharia Commission.
Specifically, the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, disclosed this in a statement. He said the approval followed the recommendation of a committee set up to;review the activities of the Board to be in line with the provision of the state law.
He said the committee’s report recommended the constitution of the board and approved by the state Executive Council. Garba stated that the membership of the board was carefully selected based on their individual capacities and competencies.
The commissioner disclosed that the Commission has Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam as the Executive chairman; with Sheikh Jamilu Abubakar and Sheikh Abdulkadir A. Ramadan as commissioner I and commissioner II respectively.
Also, members of the newly constituted board of the commission have Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdallah as chairman; Sheikh Dr. Bashir Aliyu, Sheikh Dr. Umar Sani Fagge, Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Maibushira; as well as Uztaz Muhammad Al-bakar as members; while Dr. Muhammad Tahar Adamu, the state commissioner for Religious Affairs, will serve as Secretary of the Board.
