Baking Industry is set to empower five widowed bakers with a sum of N500,000 each at the 3rd edition of this year’s Dew Drops Uncut Learning Empowerment Initiative.

The Convener Dewdrops Uncut Learning and CEO Dew Drops Cakes, Mrs Ezinne Okonkwo said this in Lagos while briefing the press.
The theme for this year is “Uncut Learning 3: The Craft Revamp” a Fun Fantastic Bakers Seminar and it will hold on 5th-7th Sept at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos Nigeria.
According to Okonkwo, the word ‘Uncut” implies the Seminar will cover a lot of activities, networking, learning and re-learning. It’s a platform for upcoming and advanced bakers to learn new things” she said.
“It is an impactful beneficial event which we are bringing to bakers in Africa. It’s my baby project which was birthed in 2017 and my way of giving back to the society. We saw the need to rebrand and be more innovative which led to this year’s theme. ‘The Craft Revamp’, said Mrs.Okonkwo.
This year’s edition she pointed out would involve training sessions with A-list bakers such as Yolanda Gampp from Toronto, Canada, and top Nigerian bakers in Diaspora, adding that it will also feature the introduction of grants to widows who are bakers all thanks to some of our sponsors who have identified with us,” she said.
It is also a platform to address issues facing the industry.
“Over the past years, there has been lot of improvement in the Nigerian Cake baking industry, people have improved their crafts, all thanks to some individuals who have sacrificed their time and God-given talent to nurture people,” she further said.
“This gave rise to the introduction of the very first award which is called ”The Dewdrops Uncut Learning best tutor Award, which cuts across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Voting is on and we have over 60 nominees so far’ she said.
On her part, Managing Director, Dripple Cakes, Port-Harcourt, Mrs Tarella Okene, team member, Dewdrops Uncut Learning, said different tutors and teachers will attend the baking seminar to teach from their wealth of experience.
Speaking on how bakers are coping with the surge in inputs, and trying to adjust their existing business models in line with the new normal, Onome Wornu of Cakes ‘R’ Us said that it is been challenging for bakers, however, many are re-strategizing to meet consumers demand.
“The project is capital intensive we thereby solicit for fund from, govt, philanthropists Corporate organisations. We also urge government to create favourable policies that make baking industry to thrive” said a Team member, and CEO, Elsie Bakehouse, Mrs Elsie Ben Okorie.
