Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday announced a total ban on commercial motorcycles popularly called Okada in some parts of Lagos State. Areas listed in the total ban are Ikeja, Surulere, Apapa, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Eti-Osa local government areas.

The governor, according to one of his aides, Jubril Gawat who shared in the information on his social media page, said the governor took the decision during a meeting with Divisional Police Officers of the Lagos Command of the Nigerian Police Force. It was learnt that the decision by the governor flowed from Thursday’s killing and burning of a sound engineer, Sunday David at the Lekki area of Lagos.

The Governor said the ban was the first of the phases that the government would enforce from June 1, 2022 . He said other areas of the state would come under total ban in the overall plan to rid the state of Okada.
