The British government has called for justice in the murder of Deborah Samuel, the second-year student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto by an irate mob on Thursday for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammed.

The UK government, in a statement by Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, while condemning the killing of Deborah Samuel of the female student, called for justice in the matter.
Samuel was said to have been attacked by a mob over comments purportedly considered to be an insult to Prophet Mohammed, with a video as she was being stoned and beaten with sticks, which was shared on social media, attracting serious emotions.

While many people, Christians and Muslims including Sultan of Sokoto, who is the Leader of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), the body for all members of the faith in Nigeria and Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, alike condemned the action, hours after the news broke, some others, including some Muslim clerics, blamed the deceased, adding that she deserved her fate.

But making the position of her home government known, Laing in a tweet on Friday, said the authorities must ensure that the perpetrators of the act are brought to justice.
“I condemn the murder of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto, and urge the police and relevant authorities to ensure the perpetrators of this horrific act are made to face justice in line with the law,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Sokoto State Police Command, has confirmed the arrest of two persons over their alleged involvement in the incident, after the state government, ordered full investigation on the matter.
