The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its on going strike for another 12 weeks.

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed this in a statement issued earlier this Monday morning, May 9, 2022. He said this was to give the government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues that led to the strike that has lasted 12 weeks.

ASUU in the statement announced that the roll-over strike became effective from 12.01 am, May 8, 2021.

It said it took this decision after its National Executive Council meeting which started on Sunday night at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja.
It will be recalled that the union started the on going strike three months ago over governments refusal to release the University stabilisation fund as agreed in Ann agreement signed in 2009 and disagreement over the payment system recognised by the union known as UTAS
