The last may not have been heard of the selection process by the Otileta Ruling house as the Laara family,one of the families that makes the ruling house has sent a strong petition to the head of the Otileta family over it’s exclusion from the selection process of picking new Olowu which was done last week Newdawnngr.com impeccable sources has revealed.


Indeed,today March 15, is the day the selection process is expected to be completed by the kingmakers who are supposed to pick one of the five names already sent to them by the ruling house.
In the letter dated March 14,by the law firm of Adebayo Ogungbemi and Co,copies of which were sent to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,Balogun of Owu,state commissioner for Chieftancy affairs,Abeokuta North Local government and Owu council of chiefs,the family protested it’s exclusion from the prices in what it described as the “unscrupulous exclusion of Laara family from membership of the ruling house.”
The family stated that the importance of the Laara family in Otileta Ruling house in Owu kingdom cannot be ignored or over emphasized stating that the family is ingrained in the very foundation and composition of the Owu kingdom as the family produced the first Olowu of Owu kingdom in the person of his royal majesty Oba Pawu who reigned between 1855-1867.
It stated further that the Laara family became the custodian of the first Owu crown and was in their possession and preserved same until 2005 when it was returned with a letter titled,”RETURN OF FIRST OWU CROWN FROM ORILE OWU TO THE OLOWUS PALACE and dated 15th day of September 2005 and received by the Owu Palace,Owu Council and then Olowu of Owu Kingdom(Copy of acknowledgement attached).
As a result, the family stated that the act of the head of Otileta Ruling house to ignore,exclude and side line one of the paramount ruling families cannot be overlooked.
The family stated that the true composition of the ruling house is Laara family,Matemilola family,Owookade family,Lumosa family and Aderinoye family.
It asked the chairman of the ruling house to reconsider it’s position in the interest of justice, equity and faur play for the overall communal interest and common good of the Owu kingdom.
It gave the head of the ruling house 24 hours notice to restrain,stop and desist from “continuing the lopsided, fraudulent non customary and skewed process of compiling and interviewing candidates for the throne of Olowu of Owu Abeokuta.
