Nasarawa United forward, Chijioke Alaekwe has talked up his team mates to brace for a fight for the title, insisting the league is still open to a number of clubs.
Alaekwe, a former top scorer for FC IfeanyiUbah scored the lone goal in Nasarawa United defeat of Niger Tornadoes on Monday to end his goal drought with the Lafia based team.
In the match, Nasarawa United took the lead on the 23rd minutes after Alaekwe nodded home Michael Tochukwu’s cross.
Alaekwe, in his post match comments described Nasarawa United as still in contention for the title and an ambitious side.
“We are still alive to our ambitions as the league is still open and continental tickets are still much available for all the teams.” Alaekwe insisted.
On scoring the very important goal, the striker said he was happy getting his first goal for the club but would add that securing a continental slot for the club is the ultimate goal.
“Scoring is a thing of joy but I am so overwhelmed to have scored my first goal since joining Nasarawa United this season.” he enthused.
Asked about life at Nasarawa United since crossing over, he said adapting to a new environment is a gradual process.
“I am adapting gradually to the environment and club, and I hope the goals keep coming”, he told www.npfl.ng.
