Rivers United continued their good form in the 2021/2022 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after an easy 3-0 win over Kwara United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Nyima Nwagua broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute after a dull opening moments with a brilliant strike from outside the box to hand the hosts the lead. The goal was assisted by a pass from Ishaq Rabiu.
Goalkeeper Iwu Emmanuel of Kwara made some saves to keep his team in the game, keeping the score line low as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of the home team.
Rivers United started the second half the brighter side with Nwagua and Ishaq tormenting their opponents. It would pay off five minutes into the half when Nwagua was brought down in the box for a penalty.
Ishaq stepped forward and confidently sent goalkeeper Iwu the wrong way to double River’s lead in the 51st minutes.
Two minutes after the penalty, the Pride of Rivers pressed high in search of more goals and Fabian Nworie who had a great game with good crosses all through the game squared from the right flank into the box.
The clearance fell to Chidiebere Duru on the edge of the box and he made it 3-0 for Rivers United with an exquisite finish to take the game beyond Kwara United.
Bother Coaches made changes to their teams and Malachi Ohawume thought he had scored in the 71st minute but it was ruled out for an infringement on the goalkeeper.
The game came to a end with Rivers United smiling with maximum points and up to second place on the NPFL table.
