He landed on the juju music terrain like a super jet; that was in the days of Sir Shina Peters’ ACE.
He was propped up by the powers that be at the EMI Records. They hired Mr. Morgan Okunuga as the main promotional force behind him and he worked his ass out.
That was when Peters was blazing red hot like a harmattan fire and the idea was to use him to rival SSP.
First, he started with the tale that Shina Peters is not the founder of Afro Juju as the musician (Shina Peters) claimed in his ACE album. This was akin to the controversy that played out between Orlando Julius and the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti over who is the creator of afrobeat.
That was the real Dayo Kujore EMI gave to the juju music world.
With the short time he tried to rob shoulders with Shina Peters, he released about three albums among, which was Solo, Super Jet among others.
Born to Mr. Michael Odejimi Kujore and Esther Kujore (who was also known as Iya Ijo of African Church in Igboro). Dayo Kujore started his journey into the world if music when he took interest in playing musical instrument at African Church in Igboro, Ogun State while his elder brother was a choirmaster.
For his elementary education, he attended African Church primary school and then went to African Church Secondary School for his post-elementary education both schools were in Igboro in Abeokuta Ogun State. From there he went to Soba Technical school in Ojuelegba in Lagos State where he trained as an engineener.
Like many singers, Dayo Kujore started juju music from the church after he got motivated to play Juju music through Joseph Oguntade who used to come to African Church in Igboro during harvest festival to play Juju music.
Dayo kujore started his own band in 1976 and release his first album in 1977 titled HA JESU BE AND E BA MI JIJO DAYO. He went ahead to release his second album at skylark record under Chief Aboderin owner of Punch Newspapers. Titled Eje ka sere ife.
Dayo Kujore has several wives and he was blessed with lovely children, including Ayinke Kujore who is following in his footsteps.
