
Former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the All Progressive Congress on Tuesday defeated the Umaru Ganduje faction as a Federal Capital Territory High Court sacked the faction.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the court said the executive council loyal to the Governor was not properly elected at the congress of the party.
The judge had granted all the reliefs sought by the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau faction which sought to declare that the Ganduje-led group did not conduct ward and local government congresses.
The applicants, Muntaka Bala Sulyman had led 17, 980 other members of the party, while the defendants are APC as first defendant, Mai- Mala Buni, Caretaker Chairman; Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary and; Independent National Electoral Commission, as the fourth defendant.
The applicants were represented by Nuraini Jimoh, SAN, while the defendants were represented by Sule Usman, SAN, M.N. Duru and Mashood Alabelewe.
Parallel congresses had held in Kano, with Abdullahi Abbas emerging chairman of the Ganduje-led group and Ahmadu Haruna Zago emerging chairman of the Shekarau-led group.
At least, there are crisis in 13 chapters of the APC with many of the disputes arising from the ward and state congresses held in the states.
Other states where factions executive committee members emerged include Osun, Lagos, Kwara, Rivers, Delta and others.
