For the second period in recent times,officials of the Directorate of State Security,DSS on Wednesday prevented journalists who came to cover the proceeding on the trial of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu in Abuja from entering the court room .
As a result when the trial of the separatist leader came up again today but journalists were barred from moving near the courtroom while some lawyers who also said they were in the court because of Kanu were prevented.
However, Kanu’s two official lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Aloy Ejimakor were allowed access into the courtroom.
Maxwell Opara, who claimed to be one of the lawyers was barred alongside some Igbo traditional rulers who had come to show solidarity with the activist.
Ejoofor, while speaking with journalists said justice must be done in the case of Kanu.
He said the accused was already in the court with his lawyers outside when the case was called.
“We were outside they locked us out,” he said
Describing what happened as the height of travesty of justice Eijofor said if the court is not ready to proceed with the case, is just for the Lordship to restore his respect his fundamental human rights. It’s the law.”
