Members of the Biafra Nations League (BNL) on Monday reportedly seized control of the boundary between Bakassi Peninsula and Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria, blocking the entrance to hoist the Biafra flag. “Vehicles were stopped from moving shortly before the Nigeria Army arrived,” the group said in a statement made available to News Express.

BNL meanwhile alleged that its Chief of Staff, Linus Essien, was attacked on Sunday night by men of the Cameroonian military in Abana, Bakassi Peninsula.

“An operation carried out by the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR) at his residence was not successful but left him injured as he fled. He managed to flee after some militia members of BNL engaged BIR,” the statement said.

BNL leader, Princewill Chimezie Richards, who was in Abana, left hours before the incident, the group said.
