AVRS holds AGM, reconstitutes management board

Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS), Nigeria’s sole collective management organisation for audiovisual works on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Lagos Airport Hotel Banquet Hall held its 5th Annual General Meeting. The AGM holds exactly one year after the last one which took place virtually on November 5, 2020. A major highlight of the AGM was the dissolution and reconstitution of the AVRS Management Board in line with its amended memorandum and articles of association, reducing the number of members on the Board from 15 to 12.At the AGM elections were also conducted to fill the 12 new vacant positions in accordance to article 6 of the organisation’s memorandum and articles of association, which provides for the election of three directors for each of the four categories of its membership.At the very peaceful elections conducted by Lagos top legal firm, Creative Legal and supervised by its Principal Partner, Mr. Justin Ige, the following were elected to the AVRS Management Board: Mahmood Ali-Balogun, Jide Kosoko, Ejike Asiegbu, Monalisa Chinda, Yemi Solade, Sani Mauzu, Nobert Ajaegbu, Ahmad Sarari, Olurotimi Aina-Kusoro, Tunji Ojetola, Iyen Obaseki-Omoruyi, Peddie Okao. All resolutions passed at the AGM were approved and ratified by the General Assembly including the reduction of the members of the Board from 15 to 12, giving equal representation to the four categories of membership; dissolution and reconstitution of the AVRS Board; re-appointment of Olukayode Timehin & Co. as auditors, the Directors were authorized to fix the auditors remuneration; and authorizing the Board to carry out distribution as soon as practicable.An elated Mahmood Ali-Balogun thanked the AVRS members for the peaceful conduct of the AGM and elections. He called on his members not to relent on their support for the organisation, as according to him their continued support is the reason the organisation has come this far in seven years.The meeting was adjourned with the swearing in of the newly elected Board.
