The Independent National Electoral Commission, Tuesday afternoon denied reports of the murder of the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Dr. Nkwachuwkwu Orji.
INEC said there was no iota of truth in the reports making the rounds that the commissioner had been killed by gunmen in Awka.
There have been anxieties over the governorship election slated to hold in Anambra State on Saturday.
The anxieties are coming on the heels of security situations where killings and burning of government properties have been on the rise.
The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra and Eastern Security Networks have vowed not to allow elections to hold in the state.
However, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno has said that residents have nothing to fear as adequate security will be provided for the exercise.
The police is deploying about 34,000 personnel to Anambra for the election.
