National Security:AIG advocates for educational programmes to strengthen Unity

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, Johnson B. Kokumo is advocating for educational programmes that can promote youth development and by extension strengthens national security.

According to Kokumo, these programs should include the acquisition of skills in the right capacities and fields which will guarantee gainful employment.
Speaking at the 12th & 13th Convocation Ceremony of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun state, Kokumo who spoke on a paper titled “The Role of Tertiary Institutions in Promoting Unity, Security and Peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria” said employment offer social securities which in turn bolsters national security.
While highlighting the current security challenges across the country, Kokumo said various efforts and machineries are being put in place by security agencies in combating insecurity.
“But i also recommend quality education which is meant to develop human capital which will develop any nation in all ramifications” said Kokumo.
Our youths needs to be exposed to the right kind of education tailored to meet national economic and developmental needs”
National security Kokumo revealed is enhanced if majority of our youths are employable both home and abroad with a view to depopulating the labour market.
Tertiary institutions, Kokumo pointed out should engage in social schemes and exchange of programs in the area of education, sports and co-operative. “This should be encouraged with the right framework put in place to stimulate growth and development in the country”
To get the best out of our institutions, Kokumo said measures must be taken to curb the negative factors that militates against youth development and and national security.
