“Ogun omode Kole sere f’ogun odun”
meaning (a collection of young playmates cannot remain unseparated in life), says a native idiom. But then in spite of the wise saying, fate still has a way of making the hitherto impossible possible and playing a joke on the life of others when they least expected.
The wise saying however could not explain that fate might still bring some or all the separated young playmates together one one day this defying the above saying..
Such is the fate which played out recently and resulted in the meeting of a onetime primary school pupil and his teacher after over 70 years of separation after the pupil has left school. Such incidents occur as vicissitudes of life, often play out.Such was the fate which today was the portion of one young lad nicknamed Okesooto.
Young lad, Okesooto, now known and called Olufemi Ogunleye, was among about 20 children of different ages being led through a distance of about three kilometres bush pathway from Asoore village to the African Central School, Meesan in Ado-Odo Local Government by a resident Teacher, Mr. Sunday Popoola, then in the employment of the African Church Mission Egba District Abeokuta.
Mr Popoola was a dutiful, vibrant and young teacher, escorting the pupils to and from School in Meesan in 1950 when Okesooto was a pupil at the school.
However since both parted ways in 1950,both teacher and pupil never crossed each others path again until Sunday October 4, 2021 when they both met at the African Church Cathedral, Ita Iyalode, Owu Abeoluta during the thanks giving service for the 2021 Odun Omo Olowu. That was 71 years which is the fill cycle of a life.both teacher and student never met.
Oba Olufemi Adewunmi Ogunleye, Journalist, public relations icon and lawyer, hugged his ex teacher and both gave thanks to God for graceful ageing and meeting again.
Oba Ogunleye fulfilled his promise to pay his ex-teacher a visit by meeting Mr Popoola at his residence at Rokale Compound, Owu, Ogbe, Abeokuta last Sunday.
For both teacher and pupil,it was a great reunion.
