Anambra in orgy of violence: Club owner, manager reportedly assassinated by gunmen

Anambra State has witnessed another tragedy with the reported assassination of Chief Philip Udala, Chairman of Udala FC, Uke, Idemili South Local Government.

This was confirmed on Wednesday, July 14, by Obinna Dike, Chairman of Anambra Independent League.

Udala, a grassroots football development guru met his untimely death when his convoy ran into a team of armed gunmen at Eke-Agu Market junction in Abatete, Idemili North Local Area.

The gunmen had reportedly attacked a local police station and were fleeing the scene when they met the convoy of Udala in Abatete.

Godsent Eriobu, Udala FC Manager and Secretary of AIL who was also in the convoy was equally shot and died instantly at the scene on Tuesday.

Dike, pray that the souls of Chief Philip Udala and Godsent Eriobu rest in the Lord.

Announcing the death he said,“So sad, our worst fears are becoming reality, we lost them,” he stated.

The Anambra Police Command in the state confirmed the incident but did not speak on number of casualties.

Meanwhile, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has mandated its students to vacate the school premises over the upsurge of COVID-19 cases in the emerging third wave of the pandemic.

The vice-chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe also summoned an emergency meeting of the school’s Senate on the development on Tuesday, July 13.
Reports indicate that two students have been confirmed positive for the disease; and that the UNILAG had stepped up the enforcement of its COVID-19 protocols.

A COVID-19 pandemic update issued by the university also confirmed that the medical centre had recorded an increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 symptoms.

Consequently, the vice-chancellor has summoned an emergency meeting of the Senate on the third wave of the disease in the UNILAG.

The notice of the meeting which is scheduled to be held at the J. F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium is expected; to discuss the need for students to vacate the halls of residence as well as the resumption of virtual lectures.
