Forty nine arrested Yoruba Nation agitators denied bail

A Yaba, Lagos, Magistrate Court on Monday declined to grant bail to the 49 persons arrested in Lagos State over their involvement in the agitation for a Yoruba Nation.

The agitators who were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, were picked up by men of the command at the Ojota area of the state on July 3, Two human rights lawyers, Olasupo Ojo, Esq and Oladapo Kayode, Esq, had filed motion for their bail application which was however adjourned until July 27 2021 for a ruling.

The police command had applied for an ex parte order to detain them for 21 days.

There have been calls for the release of those arrested while security agents continue the hunt for the leader of the protesters, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho.

Many prominent Nigerians especially from the South-West part of the country, have made cases that Igboho be allowed to move as a free man.
