A woman activist and National Convener of a Non-Governmental organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiatives (WCI), Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, has singled out Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as one of the few beneficiaries of June 12, 1993 struggle, commending him for not allowing the struggles to be in vain.

The lawyer cum activist made the commendation in Lagos on Saturday, June 12, when joining other members of pro-democracy organizations for good governance in a peaceful rally that led to the visitation to the house of the hero of the struggle, the late Chief MKO Abiola.
According to her, except for a few people like Sanwo-Olu, there have been unrelenting efforts by the elite and military men in civilian uniform to wish away the gains of June 12, appropriate the political import and turn the event into a mere icon, saying, against all odds, Sanwo-Olu and others like him stood behind the June 12 flag bearers to make sure that the struggle for the historic event continues to be recognised.
According to her, the principle of the struggle, which she said was, based on two major considerations, end of the military rule and good life under a democratic dispensation with opportunities for self-actualization, have not been realised in full, complaining that, today, Nigerians live in conditions defined as poverty capital of the world!
She regretted that unemployment rate of 35% and life expectancy of less than 52 years are definitely not acceptable indices, observing further that, “Nigerians today live in a country where seeking education by going to school has become a sin because of the activities of bandits and kidnappers who kidnap for ransom!”
Against this backdrop, the woman activist therefore urged for a sense of appreciation and gratitude to the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in Lagos State for his effort at making sure that all no sector of the economy suffers, adding that, “he also deserves kudos for securing the state.”
Success-Adekunle also praised the genuine effort of the Lagos state government in bringing real dividends of democracy to the people in concrete terms, expressing the delight that, the leadership of governance in the state have shown good faith in their unquantifiable projections and contributions in the Educational sector.
In conclusion, she stressed the need for maximum support for the governor to do more.
