Dirge for titanic

Thinking of certain things, I’m reinforced in my belief that Nigeria is due for liquidation.

If it were a company that would have occurred at least two decades ago.

1. Sixth largest oil-producing country that is a net importer of refined oil. It has four refineries, none of which refines oil but pays billions of Naira in salaries and emoluments to idle workers! Even under Mr. Integrity!

2. A country of over 200 million people, criss-crossed by large rivers that can generate enough electricity to satisfy the power needs of the entire sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, in the past two decades its total distributed electricity oscillates between as low as 2,500 megawatts to 4,000 plus megawatts – a quantum that brings to mind the fact that 3,000 megawatts plus are available to service the two Tokyo international airports and environs.

3. A country where in the 21st century, pipe-borne water that Mr. da Rocha, an Ijesa chief, pioneered over 100 years ago as Iju Water Works in Lagos, is not available in most of its state capitals. Yet a good number of the states are named after rivers: Ogun, Osun, Niger, Benue, Kaduna, Rivers, Cross River, Imo etc.

We are thus like the thirsty old mariner standing on the deck of his ship, surveying the salty ocean water, then exclaiming: Water, water everywhere, yet not a drop to drink!

How do you explain all these with all the great minds and wizkid this country has produced?

The US alone, Obama told us as president, had over 25,000 medical consultants from Nigeria, excluding – according to him – general practitioners! A country designated as the most educated immigrant group in the US. Should we add the over 9,000 NHIS doctors in Britain? The list is endless!

Better bale a sinking ship before Titanic! It is configured to sink.
