Jigawa Golden Stars on Monday struggled but succeeded to hold visiting Abia Warriors to a scoreless draw at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
The MatchDay 24 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) witnessed three scoring chances and three saves, two from the visiting goalkeeper, Vincent Edafe and one from Paul Godwin in Jigawa goal.
Abia Warriors dominated the first half limiting Jigawa to their half, with Hadi Ado Bala clearing the ball away in the 18th minute as an Abia striker prepared to shoot in the Jigawa box. The visitors were however undone by their poor shooting and inability to convert their chances.
The Badaru Boys rallied back in the second half but they hardly posed problems for the Abia defence. The only time they broke through the defence, Andrew Idoko couldn’t convert from two yards away.
It was a match that promised so much considering the reverse fixture but delivered so little.
One of the highlights of the match was when home boy Mustapha Jibreel who grew up in Kaduna came in for Abia Warriors to a resounding applause from his supporters who seemingly gave Abia more support than the home team.
