Some concerned residents of Abuja,the nations capital has sent a petition to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,FCT,Mohammed Musa Bello,over the disruption,abuse of environment and dislocation of Abuja master plan by some powerful forces.
The concerned stakehokders in the petition sent to the Honourable Minister a and copy of which is in the possession of Newdawnngr.com,alleged that the individuals have started erecting structures like residences,kiosks,drinking joints, restaurants and other structures in clear violation of the Abuja Master plan.
The petitioners draw the attention of the Minister to a similar violation and disruption of the Maitama Sports Complex which was initially designed to provide recreation for children, family and members of the public but which has been reduced to beer parlours,drinking joints and other untoward uses as against the original intention of those who conceived and designed the complex for the capital city.
The petitioners also draw the attention of the Minister to the fact that the Maitama Amusement Park was given to a company some years back to develop in line with the FCT policy on parks and recreation facilities but lamented that such has been set aside as the site of the park has been turned “to a full construction site with the development of residential building all over”(see pix attached).
The place has become a construction site,”our children has no where to go in the neighbourhood as recreational facilities have become non functional”.
The petitioners stated it has decided to bring the anormally to the notice of the Minister and the general public,”to stop this flagrant abuse of our environment by a select few who feel they are above the law or that residential developments far outweigh and supersedes parks/ recreational developments that is supposed to serve public good.”
