COVID-19: NCDC announces 45 new infections, total case  now 166,191

Nigeria on Thursday reported 29 new COVID-19 cases in four states, bringing the total cases to 166,191.

This is according to an update published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Thursday night.

With no deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, the fatality toll in the country has remained 2,071 in total.

The 45 new cases are lower than the 48 infections recorded a day earlier.

The new figure raised the total number of infections in the country to 166,191, according to the NCDC data.

The 45 new cases were reported from five states – Lagos-27 Rivers-14, Kaduna-two, Jigawa-one and Ekiti-one.

According to the NCDC, about 156,535 patients have recovered after treatment.

Meanwhile, 7,546 infections are still active in the country.

The Health agency said that yesterday’s report includes 0 cases from Plateau, Nasarawa, Kano, Sokoto, FCT, Osun, Ondo, Ogun and Oyo States.

The public health agency said a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities in the country.

It reported that the country had tested 2,093,243 people since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on 27 February 2020.
