The recently concluded fine art photography exhibition Home Is Not Silent by Nigerian photographer Mavic Chijioke Okeugo was held from May 18 to May 23, 2021, at Terra Kulture, Lagos State, Nigeria. The exhibition drew artists, curators, collectors, and members of the public into a deeply reflective visual conversation about home, memory, and emotional presence.
Home Is Not Silent presented a compelling body of photographic works that explored the idea of “home” beyond physical structures positioning it instead as a living space of voices, emotions, histories, and unspoken truths. Through evocative imagery and careful composition, Okeugo invited viewers to consider the quiet narratives that exist within domestic and familiar spaces, particularly within African and diasporic contexts.
The exhibition space at Terra Kulture provided an intimate and culturally resonant setting that complemented the emotional weight of the works on display. Visitors described the experience as immersive and introspective, noting how the photographs prompted personal reflection on belonging, identity, and the subtle tensions that shape everyday life.
Speaking on the exhibition, Okeugo noted that Home Is Not Silent was conceived as a visual inquiry into the emotional echoes that remain within spaces often taken for granted. The work challenged viewers to listen to images, to memories, and to the silences that speak volumes.
The exhibition marked an important moment in Okeugo’s artistic practice, further establishing his voice within contemporary African fine art photography. It also contributed meaningfully to ongoing conversations in Nigeria’s art scene around narrative, personal history, and visual storytelling.
Home Is Not Silent stands as a powerful reminder that home, in all its forms, carries stories that are always present waiting to be seen, felt, and heard.
