The Benue State Police Command has confirmed Monday that three students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi were abducted by unknown gunmen.
This is even as officials of the institution in its reaction could not give a specific figures of abducted.
In a statement issued by the University earlier,it notified members of the public about the kidnap.
The PRO of the institution, Mrs Rosemary Waku gave the numbers of students kidnapped as ‘unspecified’.
However, the police spokesperson in Makurdi, Anene Sewuese confirmed the incident in a terse statement, said the gunmen struck at about 10: 20 pm and kidnapped three of the students studying close to a lecture theatre.
“We have received that information, we are on it and I know that we are very close,” she said
“My advice is that the members of the public remain calm. We are doing our best to make sure that we get to the root of this and apprehend perpetrators of this crime.
“ I assure the parents of these students that the police will do our best to get their children.”
She maintained that she cannot provide any information on the identities of the students while directing that the questions should be asked from the school management.
