Judges in the much touted murder case involving officer Derek Chauvin found him guilty of killing George Floyd on Tuesday.

The verdict of the jurists came to douse a tension that had built up over the case as the world focused on the trial of the Minneapolis policeman who knelt down on Floyd’s neck for more than 9 minutes until he died last year.

The trial had attracted global attention and headlines as the world watched what would come out of the case.

The killing had sparked widespread rage across the United States last year as the Black Lives Matter campaign got fiercer.

Former Presidential aspirant Berni Sanders said of the judgement in his immediate response on Tuesday,

“The jury’s verdict delivers accountability for Derek Chauvin, but not justice for George Floyd. Real justice for him and too many others can only happen when we build a nation that fundamentally respects the human dignity of every person.”

The jurists found Chauvin guilty of Manslaughter as he was convicted on all three counts against him.

People gathered outside court in Minneapolis erupted in cheers upon hearing that Derek Chauvin had been found guilty of all charges over George Floyd’s death.

The former police officer has been convicted on all three charges – second degree murder, third degree murder and manslaughter.

Chauvin was filmed with his knee on George Floyd’s neck last May, sparking global protests against racism, according to BBC reports Tuesday afternoon.

He was later led out of the court after the judgement was delivered.
